The Horse and Jockey like its sister shop in Helston is probably the finest bakery located in the harbour town of Porthleven. Centrally located, the Horse and Jockey provide very hearty and tasty pasties, pastries and sundries that are all very reasonably priced. Synonymous within the town and local area the Horse and Jockey additionally cater for filled rolls and baguettes that are all hand made on the premises. They even offer a facility to cater for your needs during any private functions including parties and weddings. Overall, this is a traditional local bakery that offers very inexpensive food ideal for a multitude of tasks; its reputation has been built on years and years of serving the local community.

Odd little place this, obviously locally produced, baking on the premises, but it just looked a bit spartan - a bit bare and not luscious, well stocked and mouthwateringly tempting.
Crab salad was OK - just lacklustre - the crab obviously fresh, but the salad merely your common or garden stock stuff - lettuce, tomato etc - but nothing wrong with it either.
Obviously caters for the straight forward grab a sarnie not too fussed and that's fine - does the job. Can't comment on the pasties - unlike previous reviewer - the place did not raise that level of passion.
Reasonably friendly staff and the prices low to medium - good value I suppose. -

I have sampled many pasties across Cornwall as we holiday there every year, and I can honestly say that every time I have purchased a pasty from this bakery it has been fantastic. Great pastry, more than ample filling and top quality every time. When we visit this area whenever we stay in Cornwall, we go to Porthleven especially to get a pasty from the Horse & Jockey bakery. It isn't a fancy place, but there is always a big queue and that must tell you something! I would, and have, recommended this place to anyone visiting Cornwall, telling them that these are the best pasties I have ever tasted. In my humble opinion, of course!
